Change is in the air

After half century the Japanese opposition wins in a landslide election. A few fresh notes from a NY Times article:
  • “A rare display of democratic muscle in this traditionally apolitical nation”
  • “About 70 percent of Japan’s voters cast ballots, according to NHK, the highest turnout in nearly two decades”
  • “People are holding their nose and voting for the opposition. They want anybody but the ruling party!”
  • “what was most significant about this election was the fact that they finally had a real choice”
  • “We need to teach politicians to be nervous.” said Yoshiyuki Kobayashi, a 40-year-old salaryman.
Change is in the air. Question is: Can we channel it into the presidential elections this fall ?
